Jane Jenevieve Olson

Artist bio

I am Sydney Abstract artist Jane Olson.

I use several mediums, applications and techniques that allow expression with direction, texture, colour, light and feel, where I immerse completely into the present moment.
My latest series of artworks have been inspired by my travel through Japan, drawing influences from the beauty and movement of the natural and urban environments, and acknowledging the Japanese aesthetic concept of ‘Iki’ meaning 'spontaneous and original'.
All of the artworks were created in a deep state of moving meditation with a connection to natural elements.
My painting is all about flow and texture, it is spontaneous but deeply connected to the moment. Typically on canvas, I use mediums, techniques, and tools that allow me full expression and freedom to create, manipulate, obliterate, and distort until I reach the point of equanimity. My process is fleeting and volatile - a moment in time that will either be lost or captured forever on canvas.

I create art because...

Inner peace

I am different to most artists because...

I am a unique expression of light.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

Inside you.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

We are one and the same.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

Art is a language that can’t be spoken known, or explained or seen through any other eyes. But it is felt and I feel it of great importance to humanity to have such languages.
