Artist bio

I am a Dutch born, Newcastle based artist working mainly in Oil and Pen. I am fascinated by the creative process and how this has its own trajectory in which I can participate. For me this process is about the somatic experience and enjoyment of movement, dynamic, colour and texture. My paintings and drawings are improvisations, in that I never work with a preconceived idea, concept or image.
My art practice is one aspect of my passion and curiosity for the inner life and for individual and undifferentiated consciousness. I also enjoy participation in the same creative process through her practice of Holistic Counselling / Body-Oriented Psychotherapy and InterPlay (embodied creativity in play).
I am also a lucky 'Hatchling' at Newcastle’s 'The Creator Incubator' in Hamilton-North. Here I have my own studio among 38 other artists and makers.

I create art because...

I enjoy the process of improvising, creating line-work, discovering and exploring what comes to the surface without intellectual involvement of the mind. I love using colour and texture and layering in my oil paintings and I love creating linework that turns out beautiful in its imperfection. I enjoy the humour that is in my artwork, together with its philosophical depth

I am different to most artists because...

I paint in a style that I haven't seen anywhere else. I work intuitively and in an improvised way.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

is the openness of the lack of definition and concept. To just feel the joy of colour and innocence of the lines.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

that there is no such thing; a non-artist. In my therapy practice I see time and time again, that someone who manages to let go of their limiting and restrictive social and personal conditioning, can live creatively, can approach life like an artist.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

it allows us to understand and fathom the things in life that are deeper than thought, beyond definition and intellectual understanding. It is a language much wider than the language of speaking, writing or of symbols.
