Autumn 2019 at Acute Accounting

Colour Rotations

Art is a powerful medium offering us a chance to express and share a perception of individual experience. An experience audience may or may not relate to when observing that artwork.

Acute accounting’s new exhibition rocks abstract, colourful pieces by Kathy Best and Andra Tucker. Their insights into the creation of each artwork hightlight how wildlife and nature play an integral role in their lives.

Kathy Best

An artist with a decade’s experience, Kathy Best is an Australian artist who creates acrylic and mixed media semi abstracts, cubism and contemporary pieces based on observation of the world around her.

Applying texture to a blank canvas really helps Best find her direction when she starts painting, with the form emerging throughout the process.

Kathy Best
Mixed Media on Canvas  – 102x153cm – $570
Location: L20 Elon Musk Room

This is the largest piece that Best has created. She was excited when the canvas arrived and yet had no idea what she was going to paint. The painting spoke to her as she went along, with animals appearing from no where that she then highlighted with titanium white. Perfect for lovers of animals and Australian wildlife

Andra Tucker

“Conveying the idea of waves without being too obvious and clichéd was a challenge, as was getting the contrasts of colours,” Ms Tucker said.

Once Tucker got that ‘right’, the shapes and the finishing details of the coloured accents happened in a flurry. That’s what Tucker loves about creating abstract work – that it can be so spontaneous and fun, whilst also serious and challenging.
