Caitlyn McIntosh
Artist bio
Colour enthusiast, seeker of light, potent dreamer, nature inspired. I create either en plein air or in my studio sanctuary on the South Coast of NSW. I am curious about and inspired by the delicate, the imagination, childhood, the natural environment, the feminine, culture, connection to place. I have particular interests in landscape, French Impression, classical antiquity, art therapy and colour theory, travel and zeitgeist.
In 2017 I graduated from UNSW with Honours in a Bachelor of Art Education. Oil painting is my passion, though I practice with a wide range of media; watercolour, ceramics, pottery, drawing, photography, and printmaking.
My most recent body of work, Antipodean, included over 60 artworks and was exhibited in 2021. Antipodean is a love letter to Earth, experience and kin, featuring landscapes and organic forms. I was a finalist for the Emerging 2013 Exhibition at Gosford Regional Gallery and in the Creative Waves Youth Sculpture Prize in Brookvale, Sydney.
I create art because...
art is my way of celebrating this precious and fragile world of wonders.
I am different to most artists because...
my work takes the viewer on a colour journey through magnificent, ancient, and spiritual places. My work allows one to reflect and reconnect with natural world awe.
When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...
appreciation for our natural world and the healing experiences it provides us.
The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...
seek ways to create in the everyday. Closely observe the skies, listen to the wind, feel the colours and energies of our natural world. May this ease the mind and spark memory or emotive responses.
I believe art is an important part of our lives because...
art is transformative in often ambiguous and profound ways.
