Artist bio

I am a professional Ebru artist based in Melbourne since 2016. I completed Masters of Digital Media/College of Arts-Victoria University in 2018. I started to work on traditional Ebru art early in 2015 in Turkey which stole my heart immediately and have been practicing it since then.

Using natural pigments, traditional materials and water surface as a canvas, I try to find a balance and connection between the traditional and modern designs through my works but I am more after in creating contemporary, abstract forms rooted in the traditional art form.

I create art because...

Ebru is a lifelong learning journey and I am keen to share my creations with new generations while trying to achieve more each and every day. I love the freedom and endless possibilities that Ebru offers and always look for new and creative ways to adapt it to the new forms of today’s world. I see Ebru as a reflection of life, where one can explore, experiment and go with the flow to create beauty yet recognise that they can’t control everything in life.

I am different to most artists because...

I practice a traditional art form which is added to UNESCO's world cultural heritage list in 2014 ; I use water surface as my canvas and then transfer the patterns I created onto paper, fabric or other materials.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

the sense of peace and calm as well as discovering your inner creativity & inner world with the help of colourful unique designs.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

that life's definitely better with art!

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

Like the life itself, art is a great teacher one that can learn from; it helps to build patience, to embrace your faults, to be open to surprising results and accept the imperfect perfect, to understand the importance of balance in everything and to see the beauties in the world with an open heart.
