Geoff Harrison
Artist bio
It's always been my intention to create an immersive experience with my work, creating an atmosphere that the viewer can absorb. I studied art at RMIT University in Melbourne in the 1990's, and have exhibited at galleries around Victoria. I am currently working on 3 themes; Seclusion where I explore the consoling and recuperative powers of Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens, Expanse where I depict vast open spaces. I enjoy the challenge of creating depth and interiors where I focus on the psychology of spaces.
I create art because...
it's a form of self expression. If I could express my feelings in writing, I'd write.
I am different to most artists because...
I focus on light. It'a all about the light. I aim to 'punch holes' in the gallery walls to let the light in.
When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...
I can't dictate how someone will react to my work. It depends on individual personalities and backgrounds and this will determine the reaction to my paintings.
The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...
Try to clear your mind of all extraneous thoughts and just focus on the images. I want the viewer to be able to absorb the atmosphere in my work.
I believe art is an important part of our lives because...
Art is a therapeutic tool that helps people lead more fulfilled lives.
