Giorgia McRae
Artist bio
Giorgia McRae is an emerging multi-disciplinary, abstract artist living and working on Gadigal Land, in Sydney, Australia. McRae has spent the last decade in Sydney where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School. Since graduating in 2020, Giorgia has exhibited at renowned Australian galleries including her debut solo exhibition at Saint Cloche at the close of 2021.
McRae’s work travels across both two- and three-dimensional platforms, working with both the painted canvas and sculpted steel, respectively.
She explores emotional prowess and mundanity alongside balance and weight through strong lines and blocks of saturated colour. There are overt nods to Cubist and Modernist influence, particularly in her choice of palette and simplicity of form. Although intentionally separate, there is a dynamic dialogue between her two mediums revealed through motifs and palettes carried between the two. There is a maintained open interpretation of McRae’s work.
I believe art is an important part of our lives because...
It's always there when you need it. Art can make you feel everything or nothing at all.
