Artist bio

I'm an artist/designer with a passion for exploring abstract concepts through paint and illustration.

On reflection, most of my past pieces were created through my own form of art therapy. It's been incredible how much it has helped me process past trauma, and in my search for meaning - now, many of my pieces are made to help others. It is my goal to trigger moments of heightened self-awareness in people, through engaging the abstract mind, and perhaps achieving intervals of lucidity. I seek to capture what is essential and unseen behind the skin of things. A thought, an emotion, an energy - something that may be experienced, but not obvious.

I hope in some way, my work can aid people in decoupling runaway thoughts, and shed light on the importance of each of us developing our own management strategies and routines to center the mind.

I create art because...

I feel it's the single, most significant action I can take in my time awake. Something that expresses who I am, but can be shared with others, and perhaps even make a difference in someone's life.

I am different to most artists because...

I don't really plan my work, I just put myself in front of a canvas and let go. Typically I don't know the significance of the work until I'm finished.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

Openness. I want you to feel completely engaged and withdraw from your regular thoughts, and possibly arrive at a moment of new insight.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

Art is completely subjective, and your interpretation of art will often provide a more intimate understanding of yourself - kind of like a mirror. So even if you don't conceptually get it, trust your intuition if you're drawn to a particular piece.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

It's like a higher form of communication, minus the semantics of language. Like music, it's something that really gets us, and elevates us to another level of unity and understanding.
