Mark Naismith-Beeley
Artist bio
I am a Sydney based artist, living in the Inner West. Although encouraged at high school to study further, I lost my way and went on to study law before entering a career in financial services. Following a tumultuous period in 2020, I have been using painting as a form of meditation to help with my overall mental health and resilience.
Influenced by the impressionist period, my work is largely figurative and employs impressionist and expressionist techniques with a focus on the interplay of light. I love to paint my local landscape and also enjoy producing commissioned artwork to commemorate important events and locations in people’s lives.
My work has been displayed in exhibitions in Australia and in the UK and I develop my skill by entering local and national competitions.
I create art because...
When I'm on my own, it's my meditation and when I'm with others it's my passport to a wonderful community of like-minded souls who disagree about everything and still have fun. Life needs to learn to imitate art.
I am different to most artists because...
I love to involve my buyers in he creative process and help them identity and create something personal that expresses their artistic identity
When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...
Optimism
The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...
Paint like no one’s watching.
I believe art is an important part of our lives because...
It unites our best selves
