Mish Graham

Artist bio

Mish has always been creative and although that was a struggle to admit to herself in high school, Mish learnt to embrace her creative identity and lean into all that would bring. It wasn’t until 2020 that Mish began to put her creative nature into visual art.
It all started when she moved back to Australia and went straight into hospital for an emergency appendectomy. While recovering from this major operation, although Mish knew Melbourne was in lockdown and her body was also in lockdown, she needed to find a creative release amidst the chaos so she ordered some art materials online.
Now her original artwork can be found in America, the UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China and Australia. She’s been in two exhibitions Perth 2021 and Queensland 2022.
Mish’s current work explores stream of consciousness and is heavily intuitive, denoting themes of nature and authentic expression. With vibrant colours and unapologetic mark-making, her work has been likened to Neo-Expressionism.

I create art because...

It is the vehicle I used to process both the joy and sorrow of life.

I am different to most artists because...

I have a range of health issues from a PTSD diagnosis to the chronic pain management plan I’m currently on through the hospital. I currently faced daily barriers that I need to overcome just to function. I’m not out to make money but I am out to create joy through exploration.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

A sense of hope, joy and a focus on a journey rather than the destination.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

We get each day to live in the present and that is a gift. So be wise with your time and invest in what you love.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

It has the power to remind us of the things that are truly important. Art challenges us, refreshes us and brings life.
