Renée Garling

Artist bio

Born to a Australian father and Polish mother, Renée Garling is a multi-disciplinary creative who's first incarnation as a graphic designer saw her pop up at print shops and newspapers across New South Wales and Victoria.

Another artistic outlet is photography. Renée has been capturing curious patterns, textures and eye catching images from natural and built environments for as long as she can remember.

In 2016 as an unfettered free agent, she returned to her first love — art.

Renée is currently exploring printmaking in her own workspace at Armadale's iconic Firestation Print Studio.

Described as an enigmatic outsider-on-the-inside, it's hard to pigeon hole Renée. She deftly eludes genre while her anarchic yet kind hearted spirit tends to shine through in her work.

I create art because...

It's what I was made to do. It helps me understand what's going on internally on a subconscious level.

I am different to most artists because...

I'm not pretentious.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

Awakened.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

Please reconsider covering your walls with something because it matches your curtains. Have a closer look at that piece that resonates with you and find out more about the artist. They likely put more thought and work into their art than you realise.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

It's something that requires us take a moment to stop, think and reflect. Art can put a whole new mood and perspective on things allowing you to go back out into the world with fresh eyes and deeper understanding.
