Robyn Kinsela
Artist bio
Born in Sydney, I originally trained as an Industrial Designer and then went on to teach tertiary level painting, drawing, colour and design and art history. I have been a practicing professional artist since the late 1980s and have had about 18 solo shows.
I paint and draw from the real world and then reduce, adapt and reinvent that which I see and know. I am inspired by the human condition, by all sorts of landscape including, but not limited to, the Australian desert, the coast, the miniscule textures, patterns and sounds of the bush.
When all else fails I have all sorts of useful shapes and colours in the kitchen cupboards!
I create art because...
I have to. It is my way of putting some sense into my world for me.
I am different to most artists because...
I create for me and then hope others will respond to it. I am not painting for others unless it is a deliberate commission. Even then it is my response and interpretation to an outside brief.
When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...
calm and reflective.
The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...
slow done.
