Tracy Stirzaker

Artist bio

Contemporary visual artist Tracy Stirzaker sees herself as an observer and critic of contemporary Australian society and is inspired by her lived experience. Tracy uses the repetition of motifs in her artwork to explore the emotional body and self-esteem within the everyday constraints of social politics, cultural values and beliefs.

Stirzaker’s artwork is very thought provoking, personal and honest exploring her lived experience with themes around the body – independence, mental health, Asperger’s and self-worth. Employing painting and textiles techniques including text, hand stitch, soft sculpture, applique and embroidery her artworks analyze and critique her life and thus reflect today’s Australian society.

Stirzaker helps introspective women to connect with their emotions and empowers their self-belief, with thought provoking and inspiring textural fibre artworks

I create art because...

Art connects with the real me, creating art feels like home and I want to inspire other women to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Sharing my art and sharing my stories creates connections with others.

I am different to most artists because...

I am a sensitive soul and a seeker of knowledge; I like to question things. I have a passion for nature and textiles. I believe that sharing my stories in my artworks connects with others, inspiring them to reconnect with their spirits and to feel less alone on their life’s journey.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

that your story matters. We all have different journeys and we are all important. I hope that you can pause on your journey and take a moment to just be with the art and with yourself.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

my art comes from my lived experience and my sense of self. I am passionate about creating and love painting and textiles. Through my art I share my stories and my journey, and I love to connect with others through my art..

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

it can widen your perceptions of the world, change the way you are thinking and allow you a moment away from your life. Art can make you think and feel - it can make you laugh and it can make you cry and just for a moment you are present.
