Walangari Karntawarra
Artist bio
I am Aboriginal elder of the Arrernte and Luritja Nations and was born in Alice Spring. I use my art as a means of cross-cultural communication. Together with my cultural education and performance troupe, Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo, I have been informing people about the beauty and complexity of our spiritual beliefs and customs for over 30 years.
I paint only the Dreamings that I have inherited, generic Dreamings and those that the living custodians have given me permission to paint. The inspiration for my work comes from the greats like Albert Namatjira, Clifford Possum, Harold Thomas and Jackson Pollack.
