Summer 2018 at York Butter Factory

Art on Display

‘A story without words but with feeling’ – that is what York Butter Factory current exhibition is about. Currently displaying the emotive photography by artist Lisa Ray

Lisa Ray

Though Lisa Ray started her photography in film and losing hours in the traditional darkroom, she now enjoys shooting digital for its immediate results. It allows her to see and feel what is happening right in that moment. In making this work, Ray was drawn into the studio by an intense desire to fill the space and unfold a story without words, but with feeling.

Music is a very integral part of Lisa Ray’s creative process; its auditory magic is an external stimulus that she internalises and then re-manifest into her visual image making. The process overall is quite sensory and expressive. If you could reimagine this piece as a piece of music, what song would it be?

The Knowing

With a background in fine art photography, later completed via a BA of Photography at RMIT, Lisa Ray has been behind the camera for 20 years. To the Fields of Love expresses the energetic dance of new love and the transitions between the process of change. In the spaces that linger between phases of growth are moments of uncertainty, complete knowing and unspoken exchanges.
