Pregnancy can have some important impacts on a future mother, both expected and unexpected. For Jeff86, pregnancy brought a surge in her creativity. Buoyed with a new inspiration and energy, they started to respond to her surroundings with paint. Her process is intuitive and the final result is never planned but unfolds on its own. Colour, nature and relationships with loved ones inspire many of her pieces – abstract arrangements consisting of many layers of thick, impasto paint. Jeff86 uses paint and colour to explore and celebrate these experiences in her studio, when she is at her creative best.

Brought up on the South West coast of Victoria, self-taught abstract artist Jane Downing now calls Melbourne home. Using masterstrokes of colour and energy, Jane channels her emotional landscape onto the canvas, but sometimes her strokes have a life wholly of their own “It is like the colours have their own energy as they conjure themselves onto my canvas,” she explains.
Blurred – Jane Downing
Acrylic on Paper – 75x59cm – $420
Number 8 in a family of 14, Rose Giardina was never encouraged to ‘…waste time on something like creativity’. Following this advice until 55, Rose enrolled in a 7 day ‘non-speaking’ meditation. The experience transformed her, and she emerged brimming with emotion and flowing with inspiration, with a vision for the next phase of her life as an artist. Paying homage to how she was brought up, Rose connects her paintings through the continued use of leftover paint from one work to another, ensuring a thread that joins her pieces.
City Views – Rose Giardina
Acrylic and Gesso on Canvas – 120×170 – $1,500
Chalie MacRae developed a long-term love for art travelling abroad as a young adult. She began painting as a way to decorate her own shop, but found it hard to stop. So she took the plunge, transforming her passion into a full-time business. Chalie paints because it energises, calms, and frees. She loves the excitement that comes as ideas form, and colour palettes develop, as well as the actual movement involved in painting. She likes to work with a diverse range of materials, reflecting her curiosity and love for adventure, and feels overjoyed when a client connects with her work.
